Abstract
Background and Aim: This study aimed to assess the outbreak of diseases, health conditions, and healthcare developments during the 8-year Iraq-Iran war. Methods: The health status of military forces and the indigenous population as well as the prevalence of indigenous and non-indigenous diseases were reviewed. Preventive measures, the measures used for disease control as well as other individual and public healthcare measures were assessed. Results: Effective environmental healthcare measures taken and the regulations implemented in the military environment, as well as the residential areas of the indigenous population, showed dramatic results in disease control. Conclusion: Special measures to control cutaneous leishmaniasis effectively are presented.
