Relationship of Food Security and Sustainable National Security

Abstract
Background and Aim: Eliminating unhealthy food and malnutrition is prerequisite of healthy and safe life for all human beings, in all circumstances. Stabilized food security and hunger eradication, one of the important goals of the third millennium development, is on the agenda of the officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Methods: This paper is a review article. Strategies toward food security in the society, and relations with national security have been reviewed.
Results: There are threats and opportunities for all components of food security: "food supply", "food access" and "food utilization". A percentage of people are always faced with food shortage.
Climate changes affecting food resources, water scarcity and famine, all have significant association with human development and food security.
Conclusion: Food security relates directly to nutrition and health and considers of the most important priorities for sustainable national security. The resilience economy approach is considered an effective strategy in meeting the basic needs of community’s food and ensuring national security.
