Abstract
Background and Aim: Malaria is a common parasitic disease in tropical and subtropical regions of the world and during the years of imposed war, it was considered as endemic to the provinces of Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Ilam and Sistan and Baluchestan and some other southwestern regions of Iran. The disease has also been endemic in the southeastern regions of Iraq, including the provinces of Basra and Nasiriyah. Methods: The present study is a library and a combination of findings with the author's experiences and observations during the time of the Holy Defense. Results: Despite the outbreak of the disease in the main areas of the imposed war, with preventive measures and general training of fighters and health measures, the malaria epidemic did not occur during the holy defense. On a case-by-case basis, 92 cases of malaria were actively detected and treated in combatants during an 8-year period of sacred defense. Conclusion: Malaria's effective care, control, and treatment system continued during the time of the Holy Defense and effectively prevented the spread of the disease.
